My Creative Space - Dishcloth & Plane

There is a dishcloth and a plane in my creative space this week. The dishcloth is an awesome present-for-no-reason from Julianne at Chasing Snails who has a mission of converting every single household over to handmade knitted dish cloths. Well let me tell you, I'm converted!

Converted so much that I have ordered some Sugar 'n Cream cotton from American Yarns and I plan on having a kitchen full of knitted dishcloths.... well not full because that would be silly, but certainly enough so that I always have a clean one ready. If you are keen to have some knitted dishcloths in your house, now is a great time because American Yarns is having a sale so head over to their Ravelry page to check it out.

So I wanted to say thankyou to Julianne for being awesome but what to do? She commented that she liked my nephew's planes so that was a start but I needed more. I first met Julianne when reading her blog post, Top 10 Lessons for Surviving a Zombie Attack. This appealled to me as I thought it was very funny, and I now feel more confident should zombies ever attack. It soon became apparent that Julianne has an interest in things a little creepy... so this is what I sent her...

While I'm not sure that I would board this plane, it was great to hear that she loved it... especially the skull!

If you're game, jump aboard Skull Air and fly over to Kirsty's to check in at more creative spaces.

oh yes knitted dishcloths, and crochet ones too, I can't live without them now!

I'm also partial to a knitted dishcloth, but when we started using them, the Mr kept voicing his childhood flashbacks to the smell of boiling dirty cloths in a pot on the stove. Ew. And double ew.

(thanks for the yarn link - off to restash for further Mr persecution)...

I crochet washcloths as gifts and they are great!

The plane is very menacing. I feel much safer now.

Great plane! Glad she liked it so much. Now with the dishcloth, can you just wash them on a normal wash cycle? Any good wed sites you can recommend? Would really like to give them a try. Up here they will go yucky really quick.

Knitted dishcloths are the best! Love that vivid green colour too. Your plane is so cute - my pirate girl would be very envious :) K

I'm getting addicted to those beautiful handmade dishcloths and washcloths too - so much prettier than chux!

I've never tried a knitted dishcloth before - they don't leave fluff on everything do they?

That plane is awesome!

I love the color of the dishcloth. I have a stack of crocheted cloths in my kitchen, adn I like them way better than the store bought ones I used to have.

That colour is AMAZING. Now I can knit, slowly but I can do it and I think dishcloths are perfect for me...(not to mention a lovely gift idea with christmas around the corner) the mindless rows are exactally what I like. One question, do you find knitting with cotton harsher??

I am gradually being converted by this knitted dish cloth idea. Maybe I'll do something in a hot pink.

VERY COOL PLANE!! What a great idea - love it!

I haven't yet converted to knitted/crocheted dish cloths, but I don't know why, as I have converted to crocheted face washers, and let me tell you, they are divine! I do mine in a cotton/bamboo blend, just a good sized square of single crochet, and they are lovely. Will go the dish cloth next!

We are making and using crocheted and knitted facewashers here but I am about to start some for the dishes. I love making them, such a quick project. I think all the teachers are getting them for Christmas this year.

Cool plane. Bet they are popular too among the younger folk.

You're a crack up. So creative and humourous. I love the kamikaze planes of death... of course I'm going to have to go and check out Julianne's blog now, she looks like a good sort.
I've already been converted to knitted cloths, thanks to dillpickle who gave me some awesome ones for my birthday.

I love the knitted dishcloth - Thanks for the link - I can't wait to try - the colour's gorgeous too!

Hey Ms B Cardigan, Sandrine has you pegged. Ever wanted to be an Air Hostess eh? Jetstar nearly won you over way back then. Great idea, the knitted cotton dishcloths and the plane is just terrific for a zombie fan!

I love the idea of knitted dish clothes and face washers. I had never heard of them until recently when I saw them mentioned on a few blogs. I haven't yet been game to make or use one but I think I might just check those links out!

very unusual plane, she will love it! ...I am on board for sure, first class!

Love the dishcloth although it seems to nice to use. A friend from Canada gave me a crocheted one a few years ago and I have never wanted to "wreck" it so it sits in my cupboard. Let us know how it lasts with usage.

Great dishcloth I was oddly just thinking about making my own dishcloth and about the zombie attack...when hubby and I move to a new place we always discuss whether or not it would be survivable if there were to be some sort of zombie outbreak. Just in case you're wondering our current house would not be a good zombie holdout.

I am unaware of this knitted dishcloth phenomina- it looks like I will really like it though and am ready to be converted now... going to investigate!

Woollywotnots said...

Isn't that green wool fantastic?! Great to hear you are a knitty convert to dish cloths! :-)

Alisa said...

Wow, not something I'd ever given a thought to before, but they must be so much greener... hmmm I'll have to investigate. Yep, I'd give getting on that plane a miss too, despite my love of pirates. : )

Karin van Dam said...

I love that green, it's great! I never thought of using knitted dish cloths by the way. Think I have to get used to the idea, but on the other hand it sounds like something I could really like.

That plane is so much fun!

Kylie said...

Knitted dish cloths? I was the proud recipient of a knitted face washer, but have been too scared to use it thus far as I don't want to ruin it. I imagine it would be lovely and soft, but how easy are they to wash up? Do you need to hand wash or do they survive a gentle cycle in the machine?

I too love the green colour. Just gorgeous.

oooh! You know, I had no idea where to get Sugar 'n Cream cotton... I believe i have some shopping to do! ;o)

love the dishcloths, thanks for the heads up on the yarn sale. i am quite keen to give them a run.
love the plane but i think you might want to rethink the airline name-skull air doesn't inspire confidence-but hey, thats just me

Knitted dishcloths are fab! I adore that little plane.

I think all of the bad boys out there fly on Skull Air, right? I've knit tons of dishcloths for others, but none for myself yet. Guess I need to get on that.
