One day soon, little hands will help small people climb up high in these branches,
show animals (and let's be honest, probably trains too!) that they can play and rest in the shade,
and help dragons and dinosaurs reach up to munch on the leaves to fill their bellies,
and I look forward to sometimes sitting back and watching the adventures, and sometimes being part of them.
This thrifted woollen blanket is going to be a playmat for my kids. The plan is to dry-felt a river and make trees and rocks and flowers and hills and lots of things the kids can move about and set up in whichever way they want.
I started with this tree. It is made using beautiful felt that I got from a new online shop, Me & Ewe. It is 100% wool and hand-dyed.... by my sister. She's taken a big jump into her own business and I'd love you to stop by and check out the gorgeous pure wool felt she has... and to say hi to my taller-but-she's-still-little sister!
For other spaces full of creative goodness, Kirsty's got the list!

The tree is fantastic....so much future fun to be had there.
My son has been after a farm-play-mat for ages now, I should get going on it....but I wouldn't even know where to start with making a tree like yours!
this tree is seriously good IRL ... your plans are so amazing i can hardly wait to see it finished.
Liesl .. lots of younger sisters are taller but I have two younger sisters who are both shorter: one by half a head and the youngest to my shoulders. But my youngest daughter is shorter than her sister! go figure.
My little is a taller than, but younger one too. Love the tree :)
How gorgeous. I've got a playmat in mind for little owlet too. Yours sounds beautiful. x
Having seen that tree and the felt up close, I so know your Sis does a SUPERB job - no fear she'll have orders from me (once I can stomach another felty sandwich)...
It's just a gift when we can see into the future!! I like it a lot and the river is just the beginning of all the fun times ahead. I bet you are just itching to drive a train into the branches... you know you do!!
xo Steph

I just love your tree. I think your kids must be the luckiest ducks in the universe :) K
So lovely, Nikki. Can't wait to see the rest.
What a sensational play mat that will be. You know as soon as I started reading this I thought of Me&Ewe’s felt (I have just dropped by her space) The green that has just come out of the pot will be great if you want to make a spring time tree!
I love your idea for the playmat. I think that tree is the perfect start. I must go and look into this shop.

I'm a tree hugger... just thought you should know because I would certainly be hugging your lovely tree made of felty goodness if I popped by.
What a truly brilliant and inspired creation. Your children will have years of fun developing their imaginations.
What a great project, the tree is just fantastic, I can just imagine the felted river on that lovely old blankie - it will be brilliant!
P.S. The doll re-vamp was excellent.
I can't wait to see all of the bits together once you're done! If the tree's anything to go by, it will be a very cool playset!
Oh how completely gorgeous! You have me all swept up in the Land of Felt. I know just how important it is for dinosaurs and dragons to have good nutrition, I say that as my resident dinos snooze under the paper tray of my printer having had a delicious crayon dinner. : )
Its all gorgeous! The tree and the plans for the playmat and the fact that your sister dyed the felt. Love it all. Lucky kids you have. X
What an awesome tree. And the entire project sounds very inspiring! I'll bookmark your sister's shop and look forward to checking it out some time.
Would you believe I've had this page bookmarked for over a week now because I just had to say (as soon as I got around to it) how gorgeous that felt tree is! Love it! xo m.
