This week, it's about a birthday, a bunting and a new family tradition.
It was my Mr's birthday on Monday and a surprise arrival from Gina helped me make an idea that had been floating around in my head into something real .... a Birthday Bunting.
Each family has their own traditions, some we grew up with and some that begin with us. My Mum used to let us decide what was for dinner on our birthdays... this is a tradition I loved and look forward to carrying on with my children. And this bunting - that will be dragged out and hung for all our birthdays - is our new family tradition.

I love traditions. They make the memories methinks.
Thanks for the little bit of love too xxx
ohhh, that's sooo good Nikki!
Love it!!
Happy birthday to Ben, as you mentioned, it's a good date :)
love your new tradition ♥
ohh my goodness indeed ;)
Wow that is awesome..I love it!!
We started the "pick your dinner" tradition and my kiddos love it..I hope they pass it on like you have :)
Hurray for new family traditions - I love those best of all.
Your bunting is GORGEOUS!
I love traditions too. Birthday bunting is such a sensational idea - yours looks ace. I love how you have used the fringed trim.
Hope your mister had a very happy birthday!
Love the bunting and the traditions - what a great idea. I like how you've used some fringe too - something different! Happy birthday to the Mr!
I'm planning to make a birthday bunting for my little girl's approaching first birthday - you put the idea into my head a while back when I was looking for suggestions for a sheet.
Love the look of yours... I'm feeling all motivated :)
May you and your family have very many happy birthdays to come!
That birthday bunting is awesome. Makes me want to rummage through the fabric stash and make some for our home! Thanks for the inspiration. Your new tradition is fantastic. xxx
I too love family traditions and I also just adore that bunting! WHat a fabulous idea.
THank you sooo much for my Mixtape zine, I did as you wanted and didn't send you anything or post about it, but I feel really bad. I wanted too. I really enjoyed it and loved it. thank you very very much.xx
LOVE IT! What a great idea. I'm feeling very inspired about that one - I'm going to start this tradition too. I used to love the choose-your-birthday-dinner tradition too... why haven't I carried that forward. Thanks for all the wonderful inspiration :) K
I love your new family tradition. Another great idea!
Gorgeous bunting and a wonderful tradition for your fam x
I have been planning to make a bunting for ages, it looks great and would be so much nicer than our plastic happy birthday sign, which come to think of it has been misplaced the last few birthdays! We do birthday meals too, and did when I was a kid. So what was your meal? Mine was 'beef olives' and lemon delicious pudding, both out of the trusty old Cookery the Australian way! Still are, I think!
I love the idea of a birthday bunting tradition and yours looks great!
I love traditions too and yrs looks like a great one..the bunting is so well done
Birthday traditions are the best! The bunting looks great.
Amazing idea and so nice for you to start a tradition that you know will be carried on for years and years to come. One day a little girl will be saying, "My great great grandma made this bunting with an old sewing machine- not one of the automatic ones... she did it all by herself"... or something... you get my gist. xo m.
Ooohh I love any type of family tradition. I love the way we are grown ups now (?) with our own families and get to be in charge of new and appropriate ones. The birthday bunting is an ace idea.
Great bunting! And yes, family traditions are so fun. The kids really love them too and remember the special occasions don't they? Celebrating each other is what it's all about xo
What a sweet tradition that you can pass down for years and years.
Happy Birthday to your hubby!
What a fantastic Idea!! Brilliant even!
What a great way to remind your loved one of your love, on their special day!Happy belated birthday I hope you all had a great time xx
Love it Nikki. I've been thinking about bunting too but hadn't thought specifically about birthday bunting. How cool. What I love the most is that you made it for your HUBBY, not the kids, and that you're going to start a tradition with it.
We used to always have birthday breakfasts, and got to choose things like croissants, pancakes or eggs benedict! Yummm.
Ohhh its is boootiful! I love the tasselly bits! Nice work!
What a wonderful tradition. Very special x
We got to pick our dinner too! We would take it in turns to pick the cake, sadly we didn't get a cake each!
Love the bunting, I have been meaning to make some of the pointy bunting for Cohen. Maybe one day! :)
Ooh I love a family tradition. If my sister Julianne and I do anything with family that we love we always insist it become a family tradition and refuse to let anyone sway us from making it happen. :)
what a lovely new tradition (not to mention fabulous bunting)
hope you have a great celebration
they are a lovely idea Nikki. we have been making them too and they have proven to be quite popular. many happy returns to mr. cardigan.love family tradition, both new and old
That bunting is fabulous!
Nikki I love it! All of it, traditions, new and old and that fab bunting! Yay you! xox
hey!!! I love it and traditions are soooo important!!!!!
Fabulous - as always!
A great tradition the bunting, very festive.
Great bunting and even better to start a new tradition!! Go Nikki!! Happy Birthday to your Mr too!! Birthday's are just so much fun...
xo Steph
Ceremony, ritual, is so, so important. I'm still working on that one – it’s trickier when religion doesn't play a big part in our life. We also do the birthday dinner thingy. I can’t tell you how many birthday lasagnes I have made. While that sounds easy peasy, it is a particular lasagne recipe that takes about SEVENTEEN hours to prepare. I get a lot of birthday ritual throughout the year!
(Happy Birthday Mr MBC!)
Family traditions make juicy memories for sure! : D
Looks great Nicki
I agree with tania- it is hard to find rituals when youare not religious- and we have no family nearby. I desperately want Busy to have some and we are trying to start some Christmas ones this year... ) that don't focus so much on "getting" stuff... I do love the birthday bunting... beautiful.
What a nice tradition. Just the sight of that bunting will stir up happy feelings for everyone after a while. :)
Awesome Nik - well done!
I look forward to seeing it up for years and years to come.
Great bunting and great new family tradition .
Oh birthday traditions! Now you've got me thinking. It is my little one's first (ever!) birthday next week and I've only got one week to think up a good birthday tradition to start! The pressure. I only just decided on a cake I was happy with, and now you put this idea in my head. Your bunting is lovely, and very intersting with the different bits, enjoy it on all the birthdays to come!
