My Creative Space - Birthday Bunting

This week, it's about a birthday, a bunting and a new family tradition.

It was my Mr's birthday on Monday and a surprise arrival from Gina helped me make an idea that had been floating around in my head into something real .... a Birthday Bunting.

Each family has their own traditions, some we grew up with and some that begin with us. My Mum used to let us decide what was for dinner on our birthdays... this is a tradition I loved and look forward to carrying on with my children. And this bunting - that will be dragged out and hung for all our birthdays - is our new family tradition.

For more creative spaces, head over to visit Kirsty who needs a little TLC today.

I'm planning to make a birthday bunting for my little girl's approaching first birthday - you put the idea into my head a while back when I was looking for suggestions for a sheet.
Love the look of yours... I'm feeling all motivated :)

May you and your family have very many happy birthdays to come!

THank you sooo much for my Mixtape zine, I did as you wanted and didn't send you anything or post about it, but I feel really bad. I wanted too. I really enjoyed it and loved it. thank you very very much.xx

LOVE IT! What a great idea. I'm feeling very inspired about that one - I'm going to start this tradition too. I used to love the choose-your-birthday-dinner tradition too... why haven't I carried that forward. Thanks for all the wonderful inspiration :) K

I have been planning to make a bunting for ages, it looks great and would be so much nicer than our plastic happy birthday sign, which come to think of it has been misplaced the last few birthdays! We do birthday meals too, and did when I was a kid. So what was your meal? Mine was 'beef olives' and lemon delicious pudding, both out of the trusty old Cookery the Australian way! Still are, I think!

Amazing idea and so nice for you to start a tradition that you know will be carried on for years and years to come. One day a little girl will be saying, "My great great grandma made this bunting with an old sewing machine- not one of the automatic ones... she did it all by herself"... or something... you get my gist. xo m.

Ooohh I love any type of family tradition. I love the way we are grown ups now (?) with our own families and get to be in charge of new and appropriate ones. The birthday bunting is an ace idea.

Great bunting! And yes, family traditions are so fun. The kids really love them too and remember the special occasions don't they? Celebrating each other is what it's all about xo

What a great way to remind your loved one of your love, on their special day!Happy belated birthday I hope you all had a great time xx

Love it Nikki. I've been thinking about bunting too but hadn't thought specifically about birthday bunting. How cool. What I love the most is that you made it for your HUBBY, not the kids, and that you're going to start a tradition with it.

We used to always have birthday breakfasts, and got to choose things like croissants, pancakes or eggs benedict! Yummm.

We got to pick our dinner too! We would take it in turns to pick the cake, sadly we didn't get a cake each!

Love the bunting, I have been meaning to make some of the pointy bunting for Cohen. Maybe one day! :)

Ooh I love a family tradition. If my sister Julianne and I do anything with family that we love we always insist it become a family tradition and refuse to let anyone sway us from making it happen. :)

Ceremony, ritual, is so, so important. I'm still working on that one – it’s trickier when religion doesn't play a big part in our life. We also do the birthday dinner thingy. I can’t tell you how many birthday lasagnes I have made. While that sounds easy peasy, it is a particular lasagne recipe that takes about SEVENTEEN hours to prepare. I get a lot of birthday ritual throughout the year!

(Happy Birthday Mr MBC!)

Family traditions make juicy memories for sure! : D
Looks great Nicki

I agree with tania- it is hard to find rituals when youare not religious- and we have no family nearby. I desperately want Busy to have some and we are trying to start some Christmas ones this year... ) that don't focus so much on "getting" stuff... I do love the birthday bunting... beautiful.

Oh birthday traditions! Now you've got me thinking. It is my little one's first (ever!) birthday next week and I've only got one week to think up a good birthday tradition to start! The pressure. I only just decided on a cake I was happy with, and now you put this idea in my head. Your bunting is lovely, and very intersting with the different bits, enjoy it on all the birthdays to come!
