2 heads + 2 heads = 4 hats

When you have twins, there are many things you do twice. But when you have twins AND your friend has twins, there are some things that you do four times.... like at the park when you try and quickly work out how the two of you can go in four directions! But in this case, it's a little less frantic. In this case, it's making four hats.

Using Nicole Mallalieu's Kids Hats pattern, I started with hats for my friend's girls. I tried to get my two to model them but this was the best shot I could get.

It seems that finding good hat models can be a challenge! So I found a more complient and less inquisitive pair to model the new hats.

This is a great pattern that is very easy to follow. The hats sit well on the kids' heads and they have a wide brim, which is excellent for protecting little faces from the sun. My friend's girls also think they are great for tea parties!

So that's two down, two to go. And given that the temperatures are hovering around 30°C in Melbourne at the moment, I had better get sewing.

Gorgeous work. Don't suppose you want to keep going and make another two for my boys?! Problem is that with basically any hat I have to glue and staple them onto the boys to keep them there. We've lost so many...

Such lovely colours! I have that hat pattern and I'm very guilty of leaving it languishing when I really should be making some little boys hats.

30 Celcius? Oh, I am so jealous right now. I just got up and it's so cold here. I know, I'm a whimp, and it's not even really, really winter yet, but somehow I just can''t get really used to these temperatures yet :-)

Cute hats!

Its a sensational pattern isn't it? Your hats look absolutely gorgeous. I really like the prints you have chosen - they are perfect.

Isn't it satisfying to make something that is so much lovelier than its store-bought equivalent?

Happy sewing!

My favourite hat pattern! You have a lucky friend. I love the spaceman fabric you have picked out. Where did you get it? Is it Kokka?

Only 4 hats? Does that mean the compliant models don't get new hats!

Oh they are really sweet Nikki - I can't believe you used that pink Sandi Henderson - I finished a hat today with that on one side and another fabric from the same range on the other side.
Love the robots and cats too.

Thanks for sharing this great pattern - I have one (a mainstream one) but it's too tricky and remains on the pile of projects to do later. Yours look great!

Beautiful! Makes me feel all warm and fuzzy. Love your fabric choices, too.

Blimey - could you imagine - me with my 'can't make anything more than once' issues? Would very happily put some orders in on top of Gina's - LOVING THE FABRIC CHOICES.

The hats are great. All pics of your kidlets make me melt... I think them modelling the hats is too cute. I like that shot! You can almost see them wriggling. They never sit still, do they? At least they keep you slim :)

Ooh, so cute, and a timely reminder that my two will need hats shortly (although summer takes a bit longer to get here!) I am not brave enough to take mine anywhere on the loose unless there is another pair of hands to grab one if they head off in different directions. I can't imagine how two adults and four toddlers could be fun for the adults!

Hope you're getting some sleep :-)

Great hats! I love the fabrics you used. Yes, I have so many photos that look like your first one...

Do I spot a pink 'henna garden' kids hat? Yummo. I love that print and have just ordered more in her 3 new colourways.
Also- tell Gina, she really shouldn't staple hats to her kids heads because it might hurt :)

I always wonder how photographers manage to get little models to comply. Super glue perhaps? Your little one are a treat and the hats look beautiful. Elsie

Great hats! I have that pattern, but didn't realise there was an option for a chin strap. Which is a very good option, especially when the wearer thinks the entire purpose of putting on a hat is to see how quickly you can pull it off again. Of course, I should have realised that Nicole seems to pretty much cover every possible variation you can think of!

Gorgeous hats! With the summer heat wave lately, hats have all of a sudden become a necessity. Your two look gorgeous in them (the hippo and rhino of course!). Hats have been on my activity list too, I hopefully should have something to show tomorrow. I've just orded Nicole Mallalieu's, but I had to use a different pattern whilst I patiently wait for it in the mail... Great fabric choices too!

On behalf of the twins we thank you very much for the gorgeous hats. On a recent trip to the beach someone asked me where I had bought them - was thoroughly pleased to tell her that my fabulous mate Nikki made them! Not only do they look great, they stay on with little fuss from the girls and wash really well. I am a very lucky friend - and I know it! X

Cute hats! I was thiking about getting that pattern the other day. My daughter needs a new hat (the poor thing is currently wearing a boys opp shop hat) so I think i'll give these a go.I'm thinking fabric from an old vintage sheet will look lovely.

These are really gorgeous. Your hat models are very cuddly looking! I've always found it hard to find a nice children's hat that doesn't cost a fortune or advertise something. Maybe this is the way to go.

First of all, they are gorgeous hats! and secondly, wow, this is serendipidous...I was just hunting a hat pattern to make for my 2, and Nicole's pattern was my favourite but I didn't hit *buy now* because I wasn't sure how they fit, or their stay-on-ability. And now you've convinced me!!
