My Creative Space - My Baby Doll

This is my baby doll and highchair from when I was small. She is well travelled, moving interstate and spending time packed away in the roofs of 5 houses as my parents moved around. I am very grateful that despite having to lug four lots of cradles, highchairs and dolls from house to house, my parents never thought of getting rid of these.

So as my kids are now starting to pretend, it was time for "I can't remember her name*" to come down from the roof.

The kids do a great job of keeping her well fed and making sure she has lots to drink.....

but still, she's in a bad way. Her stuffing has flattened making her way too floppy, she needs a good wash....

....and a bad position in the plastic container has left her head a little oddly shaped.... making her look just a bit too creepy. I apologise to those who will now have trouble getting to sleep tonight! But on the plus side, look how happy she is within herself!

So after her success with Webster, Dr B Cardigan has been paged and the operating theatre (aka washing machine/sewing machine) is being prepared.

For more creativeness, head over to visit Kirsty who is settling into her new space.

From last week: Issue 10 of MixTapeZine is on its way to Teddy Bear's Wednesday.

*OK, I'll admit it. She wasn't a favourite! I do remember my Cabbage Patch Doll's name was Eartha Ivy.

Though not a favorite, she does seem rather accepting of her own self. Though I am not sure that I entirely trust her.

I think she's great and must be enjoying her new feedings and hugs!

You can do it Nikki. I reckon she just needs a little bit of a sun bake to soften up her head for "cosmetic surgery".

=D my little has just the same one! But she is using her as a mold for her masks making =D

Scary but I've seen a couple of newborns with heads shaped like that. Happy fixing.

i think it is wonderful when childhood toys can be passed down!
it's great they are having such a lovely time with her ~ although that last picture is creeping me out a little

Lucky you, I have very few things left over from my childhood. I think it is mostly a result of being the oldest of four children. They all got to play with my toys too so not many survived :(

Hope Dr B Cardigan has a steady hand and good eye for this next round of theatre!

I have EXACTLY the same doll from my childhood! It is hiding in a cupboard as hubby is freaked out by it!

My parents still have the cot Dad made for it at their house too, waiting in case I have a girl one day. My twin sister has the same doll, of course and so did our best friend in primary school. Mum made our dolls clothes and some of our clothes as babies fitted her, so the dolls would get dressed up and have naps. Mum even made us yellow sheets sets for our cots! Oh, you have just brought back so many memories! Your little ones are going to have so many lovely memories like this too.

est of luck for the surgery. :)

Weren't they powder dolls, or something like that?

There is something very cool about your kids playing with toys that you used to play with, isn't there? We have a Fisher Price Happy Apple and wooden blocks (among other things) amusing their second generation.

Yeah I've gotta hand it to her I don't know if I'd be that happy with a dent that big in the side of my head! She's very cute though, my cousin had one almost the same and she was very loved too.

Hey, I'm just impressed you still HAVE a doll from childhood. I hated mine so much I named her 'Oisey' and hacked all her hair off and pushed her face in.

Poor Oisey. The guilt, the pain. If I ever find her I'll send her to Dr B Cardigan... happy operating.

...she looks like she's had a hard day lol.

I'm sure she'll be much refreshed after a wee bit of cosmetic surgery!

The pretend age is so much fun. My daughter started mimicking me with her doll after her brother was born, nursing him even. Good luck reviving What's Her Name!

What a lovely thing that your parents kept it all for so long! Such a gorgeous thing that the kids love it too! Good luck with the refashion! K

Can't wait tosee how the 'doctor' goes Nikki.
There is an endless stream of bowls, bibs and spoons to be found around my house too. At least they no longer grab the newborn nappies and take off with them though...

Nikki I have a 'Chucky' fear from I was exposed to the movie when I was WAY to young. Dolls tend to freak me out. Your doll freaks me out!! But I reckon you may just be able to fix her up...maybe a sun bake? Change the colour of her eyes? I dunno know but a family favourite deserves a 2nd life!!! Now to go and breath into a paper bag...

Eartha Ivy, hey! I never had a cabbage patch kid - I had a My Child instead. Wasn't my favourite though. My favourite was a hand-me-down from my mum called Michelle (!?!).

Sarah here insists on keeping and loving every doll that she encouters. My old dolls, every doll that someone else does't want anymore, you name it. And yes, some of those are really ugly, smudgy, or creepy, even after a wash. Ugh. On the other hand, I think it's kind of wonderful too, how she doesn't care a bit how they look. To her they are all evenly fantastic and sweet. :-)

Oh the wonders of the cabbage patch. My favourite was a little black "cabbage pbish" named Henrietta Bathsheba. Thankfully the speech impediment has been outgrown, and Henrietta is now getting regular cuddles from my cousins girls.

That's so nice to be able to share toys from childhood. Mr Yardage still won't part with his transformers!!

If you stick a squished ping pong ball in hot hot water it will re-expand and go back to the previous shape... are you game? I love that you have kept her for so very long, the kids look like they are really enjoying her company too. Peta

Amazing what doctors can do these days. Now when are you going o give yourself a break and set yourself an easy peasy challenge?

oh- I just met Webster- has he fully recovered from sugery? Good luck with ol' what's 'er name! My baby alive (which is what I continued to call her- go figure) featured in my blog recently. ahh, the good ol' days. Here's cheers for hoarding parents!

she does look like she has plenty of inner confidence and grace (or is that evil intent malicious plots?) Good luck to the good doctor! I'm in full on dolly-clothing-making mode here, since that's a decent part of Immy's Christmas present (Cole's doll will get an outfit too, but that doll prefers to be like his human - naked whenever possible!)

and ps didn't cabbage patches have the best names? THat said, now I can't remember the name of mine...

Oooh, I can't wait to see her after her extreme makeover. Will she have a sparkly set of white veneers over her choppers as well?

I am wondering if your hospital will consider my 37 year old Helen for admission. You see, after being stored in the roof, she is now able to lend everyone a hand. Just a hand.

How great that you have your beloved (if not all time favourite) toys to pass on, and good luck with the surgery.
